Georgetown is called the Hoyas because of the popular cheer "Hoya Saxa," a combination of Greek and Latin that translates to "what rocks!". This cheer originated in the late 1800s and was likely a reference to the stone walls on campus or the "Stonewalls" nickname of Georgetown's early sports teams. The cheer evolved into the university's athletics nickname in the 1920s.

I don’t care about conference pride but it’d be cool to see the ACC basement dwellers help the conference just a little bit when it comes to NET and selection Sunday.
