It almost doesn't matter who the figurehead is in Chicago. It's run by a political machine, has been for well over a century, likely will be until the city goes bankrupt.

Where can I donate?

On funding for Israel: You told Vox that in the future, if they want military funding, they can pay for weapons like anybody else.

Okay, so, let’s be clear: That’s not what I said. What I said was, they’ll no longer get US taxpayer support. They’ll get the same restrictions like any other country that buys any of our weapons. There’ll be a country among countries. I worked for President Obama when he signed the largest military aid package for Israel and the early funding for Iron Dome. It’s a different game now, and you will not get the United States taxpayers to foot the bill for you. Not happening.

Quote :
"You’ve spoken out on gender identity and Democrats’ policy there. Trump’s day one executive order, which reversed Biden’s orders, says: The United States recognizes “two sexes, male and female. These sexes are not changeable.” Do you agree with that?

My position is, we’re focusing on the wrong things. We got ourselves wrapped around a set of discussions that are not primary to what we have to do. Just think about this. You spent three years, or four, arguing about transgender players and women in sports. The Olympics just made that decision. I’m not arguing about things that are not relevant to how we move this country forward and getting us all sidetracked in a cultural war that is not core to the mission of this country of education or growing the economy.

Did you agree with that Olympics decision?

Yeah. Not only do I agree with the Olympics: I don’t think men should be playing women’s sports. We’re the party that advocated the push for Title IX. I’m not undermining Title IX, which is the reason the United States women’s team is winning hockey, soccer, worldwide."

Seems like this approach isn't welcome in the democrat party

Apparently kamala told rev al that she is thinking of running again. I sure wish we saw her every day instead of the bozo we have now.

Sounds like Rahm is talking way too much common sense to be the Democratic frontrunner. They are again going to try to make the election about social issues.

Gas is over 4 dollars a gallon right now. The majority of the country couldn’t care heads bout that .03 of the population.

I'd prefer folks that don't hang out with Megyn Kelly and Elon Musk, personally

"we're focusing on the wrong things, so let me go talk about trans people with the far right"

That quote above is basically him avoiding the question btw, but he didn't avoid it with Kelly

I would rather focus on the children starving to death in Gaza, the American troops about to needlessly die, and the debasement of our own currency (which will lead to more starving kids in the US) before we concern ourselves again with who wants to play dress up in which bathroom.

You have 10 political points to spend to grab voters, maybe if you think spending 1 there would bring a few along and move the needle.

It’s the right messaging and he’s not actually saying anything specific. Transgender issues really aren’t a federal issue and it’s easy enough to quietly undo the harmful Trump admin policies on it. But I think that answer threads the needle of what democrats need to say.

^^^^I'm not sure I care what a multi time winner of the "got fooled again" award thinks a Dem nominee should do. You should be blue no matter who just as PENANCE.

But regardless, reducing our support of Israel is becoming the default, Newsom and Shapiro have both softened their stances recently. We can get a nominee that it's more willing to treat Israel like an adult rather than a tiny baby we have to coddle, without also having someone expressing right wing views on trans (and then refusing to admit his views to a more centrist publication). He goes where the wind blows.

It was one time. Fooled one time! Unless you count Obama.

Thinking out loud. I imagine the blow back against Trump will be bad enough the trans stuff probably won't matter at all. I'm willing to raise three daughters if we can get him and his entire family out of office and most of the admin in jail. Especially Hegseth. Even if it's Kamala or Newsome though would prefer many others.

Unlikely that happens as he paid Israel for his own protection. Bet there are just low level sacrifices and his bullshit kids get to live on an island with their crypto fraud.

I was making a meta point about the phenomenon of pearl clutching. I'm not really interested in the topic or validity of whether it's racism. More that someone uses it to frame the most asinine behavior and alienates basically everyone and becoming so insufferable Trump becomes attractive.

Everything is framing and narrative. They in this case being liberal establishment. Other frames that seem more effective are AI tech bros are going to take your jobs. Or the healthcare CEOs are denying care and killing people.

Trump is a racist and everything is coded in racism may work for a 19 year old that read the wiki on 1692 project.

TBF I said Trump was a failure numerous times. If you want to pivot the question to how you knew an anti social autist wouldn't be able to influence dick. Pretty valid question.

Back to Rahm, he is trying not to scare the hoes (independents), so they don't vote for Hitler++.

Eh, moron is more the pearl clutcher. TGL has just been drinking the left-wing koolaid so long he’s in the mess over there.

Me? I’ve moved far from where I started. I’m pretty much left of center on most things, with the exception of one issue. Gotta give it to him though, he’s stayed true to the colors all these years.

Still don’t like Rahm, but I’d probably vote for him over Kamala or AOC.

I’ve never, in all the years we’ve been posting together, seen you waver one bit, or even give a nod to what some might consider conservative ideas. You can’t possibly think that every one of us is a bigoted racist, or that every conservative opinion is wrong. Can you?

I’ve seen you only post from the far left perspective.

I have plenty of opinions and ideas that lean left - pro choice, pro-amnesty, pro-lbgq, probably going to vote for democrats in the midterms, and in 2028, anti-MAGA, anti-Trump, anti-fucking Lindsay Graham. It’s to the point now to where my family won’t even talk to me about politics because they think I’ve moved so far left.

why would I waiver one bit from my ideals and beliefs? especially considering where the Republican party is in 2026?

there are no conservative ideas that I agree with, and they’ve been exactly who I’ve always thought they were. Trump is no outlier, he just is unable to self-regulate.

since the Southern Strategy, the Republican party has been about money/profits over everything, as well as bigotry. I don’t think that every person who votes for a Republican is a bigot, but they continue to show that they’re a-ok with bigotry.

this really isn’t that complicated. I’m for people over profits, and every person deserves dignity and to have the same rights as everyone else.

I took it to mean you would get bent out of shape over "Puerto Rican trans representation in media." at the expense of issues like: Women's protections in abusive relationship. Islamic dudes gunning down gay night clubs. Inner city kids having to deal with meth addicts masturbating on public transit.

The reason the bathroom bill and issues like that work so well for republicans is it sucks the air out of conversation for combating real bigotry. Everyone has to comment. You seem to take the bait on all of them and spend up all your energy on every minor grievance. Crying wolf over every non-college educated person not up to date on every ivy league shibboleth.

All I said was those bills are focused grouped by right wing think tanks to deflect economic populist issues. In NC, they did it directly to remove some worker protections in HB2 and after the trans pieces got thrown out the worker stuff stayed because of the focus was the bathroom stuff.

That book "Listen Liberal" discusses how social issues (bathroom bills MEN AS WOMEN!!! IN SPORTS) were explicitly focus grouped by lobbyists to combat economic populism. 12% of Bernie primary voters went Trump in 2016. That's a big margin.

Also, the Christian right needed a place to go once they lost the gay marriage issue.
