Don't get too excited.

Quote :
"But the fact that voters are seeing through Trump’s empty promises does not mean they suddenly support Democrats. In fact, CNN’s poll found Democrats trailing Republicans by 4 points in total party approval. At just 28 percent, voter approval of the Democratic Party is actually lower than it was at this time last year. So Democrats shouldn’t go popping their celebratory champagne bottles just yet."

In brief seach I can't find party favorability by party, but coz's point (I think) is that you usually see polls like

Trump fav

Fav. Unfav
Rep. 80. 15
Dem. 5. 90

Dem fav

Fav. Unfav
Rep. 5 90
Dem. 38. 45

Resulting in Dems having worse Fav bc Dems expect more and get upset when they don't follow through, whereas Trump is the golden boy for Reps and anything he does is right.

Case in point: you
Case in point the other way: the Dem credibility watch thread.

I'm suggesting that internal dissatisfaction with Democratic leadership is a critical self-assessment expressing a desire for improvement toward aspirations. I'm suggesting that on balance Democrats are more willing to be critical of themselves and their party than Republicans. Because it's true.

Other theories:

"The "Big Tent" Effect: The Democratic Party is a broader coalition of distinct interest groups (Progressives, Moderates, Black voters, Latinos, Gen Z, etc.) with often competing goals. This leads to constant internal negotiation and public disagreement.

The "In-Power" Dynamic: Since the 2024 election, Republicans have largely unified under President Trump’s leadership. Parties that lose power or feel they are in crisis—as Democrats currently do—tend to engage in much higher levels of "autopsy-style" self-criticism and finger-pointing."

I know plenty of Democrats that are not gay, males, who are just trying to get by the best way they know how, just like the rest of us.

They would counter you with “To be a conservative these days, you have to either be stupid or racist.” Which one are you?

You people on the far ends of each political spectrum give your party such a bad name.

I say this to strangers on Facebook but im careful to specify to be MAGA/a trump supporter

I don’t think conservatives and republicans and maga are all the same thing

The key difference is how cognizant each group is of the intent and outcome of the policies they support— most self-identified conservatives are not cognizant at all (these are the people who will post memes one day on why we can’t buy insulin for everyone instead of giving money to Africa, then be made about a Democrat pushing for universal healthcare the next day), where as if you’re still maga at this point you know you’re racist and are at varying levels of coming out of the closet about it.

99.9999% of anyone, regardless of team, is cognizant at all of their opinions being expressed. They just react to what the screens on their TV and phones say. It's similar to the involuntary reaction of getting burned and reflexively moving your hand away. Totally without thought.

Trump himself fraudulently drains our resources and tramples our values

But what makes MAGA racist is that they only want white immigrants; they have cancelled the legal processes for non white immigrants and demonized them with lies. The “we just don’t want illegals” was a lie, it was a smokescreen for keeping the wealth and power in the hands of legacy white American enclaves.

I assume you meant not cognizant— but I generally agree. If we’re going to have a thriving advanced society, we need people to reflexively support DEI and international diplomacy, not billionairism and white supremacy.

Like too many Democrats, you see everything through the lense of race, in black and white if you will. There are financial reasons as well as cultural reasons to restrict immigration from many of the nations on the "pause" list. Even skeptics like Richard Dawkins and John Cleese have recently acknowledged the merit of our Christian heritage and the threat of Islamism and sharia law to Western society due to mass immigration from Muslim countries.

The United States is pretty far from an Islamic theocracy, although we seemingly want to create a Christian theocracy governed by demonstrably non-Christians.

Islam is very supportive of theft and fraud. That's why they cut off your hand if you steal.

I don’t see everything through a lens of race— race is a social construct that I would rather not ever have to think about. Racism was the overarching force guiding politics until the 1980s when as Lee Atwater described, it became the subtext of all GOP politics— it’s the republicans and especially MAGA that keeps racism alive in American politics.

America by nature has always been a nation of immigrants, there aren’t substantial cultural issues from immigration. And the minority bloc of maga voters who thought a rapist felon reality tv show would make a good president have no room to be mad about allegedly corrosive culture— maga is what’s turning America into the Islamist extremist hell state, just with Christianity as the figurehead.

Actually it's your party's discriminatory DEI practices that kept racism alive and well, judging candidates for jobs and university admissions by race and gender rather than their qualifications.

Democrats are the architects of the hellscape that left the gate wide open at our borders, enabled chemical and surgical mutilation of children, encouraged mass murder of the unborn, and promoted drag queen story hours for children.

This is what DEI ends. The status quo originating from the Jim Crow era was to privilege white males. DEI ends this practice of discriminating on race and gender.

^^We're not in the Jim Crow era anymore. Would you want your son to not be hired or not selected by a university solely because an equally or less qualified candidate had darker skin or a vagina?

^^^Trump has hired Latinos and African Americans in his cabinet. It may not be as diverse as some previous administrations' cabinets, but maximizing diversity shouldn't be the goal. Hiring the best people should be the goal.

heelfan, did you vote for us to go to war with Iran?

Trump told everyone that a little pain would be necessary through his tariff-induced inflation. But did he tell you about the extra $1 per gallon that you'd be paying at the pump? His whole schtick was fix the economy, border, cheap gas and no wars.

Only thing you can check is the border...maybe. And yet you are still blindly following this man? I just don't get the hold he has on MAGAs.

I already listed things I was pleased with and didn't mention tarrifs or wars. I'm happy that Khamenei is no longer in power and hope there will be regime change in Iran for the sake of its people. I also think it's important that Iran not be permitted to have nuclear weapons due to the IRGC's desire to annihilate us and Israel.
